Introduction to Unit 9

For our first ongoing project of year 2, we are doing a collaborative website. Within this we all have our own ideas which occasionally cross over in which we work together.

For my page on the website, I am hoping to do a music themed page. I want to talk about how events have had to change because of the COVID-19 outbreak, current music events happening around the world and in the UK, I want to do music reviews and music video reviews from my favourite artists and new releases from my favourite genres.I also want to help students promote their music from my page, I want to be able to link their music on the page so people can listen to it easily.

To make this happen I will need to know people making and releasing music in the college so I will ned to communicate with Emily (teacher in songwriting) and get to know some of her students. To make it personal to each person releasing music I want to communicate with them on how I should theme the posts to match their music and releases. I will also be working with Indy as we are both interested in doing a music page for the website. I will also need Indy for any photograph throughout the project as she has good equipment and experience in photography. I would rather be more involved in the website than the radio show but will help where I'm needed, so will need the booths to record for the radio. I will also need Canva for logos along with Photoshop, Adobe Premiere will be used for promotional videos.

Daisie is making the base website and we are all saying how we would like to edit it to make it more personal for all of us, the reason one person is making it is because only one person can access it at once. Once we launch the website we will be releasing posts weekly from each different person but we will need to have these all planned before the launch. We will make a schedule for each post and times for release. For the logo of the page we are working in separate groups to each make one in Darren's Friday lessons on Photoshop or Canva and then voting as a whole on which is the best. The website needs to go together to be pleasing to look at (e.g. same fonts, similar colours and layout for each page) so we will have to think about this in editing.

For the social media side of things we will use one social media campaign. Within this we should have an Instagram, Twitter, Youtube (for promotional videos), Facebook. We will need to keep these regularly updated so that theres sufficient user interaction. The more you post, the more likely you'll show up on peoples pages. Encourage people to put on post notifications so they can keep updated on when posts are.

Change of Plan (FINAL IDEA)

1 week before our first deadline, I changed my mind completely on what I wanted to do. I began with doing a music themed blog but have now changed to doing a food blog alongside some music. So for my blog I am going to be doing a live lounge sort of thing where I then conduct an interview. When I am by myself I will be making their favourite food so I can bring in the food blog idea.

This will be in video format and I will do the editing on Adobe Premiere. The recipes will be done on a blog format which I will create on WIX. I was inspired by my friend who is currently doing a music course at Northbrook MET and he gave me the idea as he has a recording space in his back garden.

To make this happen in the way I would like I need to do sufficient research on interview questions as I want it to be laid back and comfortable. I don't want it to be too serious. Indy Brewer said she will happily help me come up with some questions and said this will be her part of the collaboration. Indy has also said she will happily take some photos for me so I have these to put on my website. Indy has experience in photography and will be editing those herself. However I will be editing the live lounge and the interview. I am thinking of doing the interviews on Anchor which is a podcast app. I can then upload those onto Spotify and embed them into the website so they're easy to access. The live lounge videos will be on my website and I will upload them onto Youtube so anyone can access them. I will edit these on Premiere.

I will need a high quality camera to film these live lounges on which I can get from my dad or my friend Henry. The software is on all the college computers so I will edit these videos at college. For my logo/GIFs I will use photoshop. I could also use Canva or Adobe Illustrator. I am more experienced in Photoshop and Canva so those may be easier for me to do something good on.

I will be releasing weekly posts for my cooking page. I have 4 artists lined up at this time so I will be doing 4 music themed food posts. I am also hoping to include Ellie Homer (who is doing Ellie's Corner on the collaborative website) so I can cook a meal with her. On the weeks where I can no longer include artists I will make playlists related to the food that I am cooking so I can pull both my interests in.

Social media wise I am going to create a Spotify/Anchor account to post the interviews, I will make a Youtube account to post the live lounge videos and finally an Instagram to promote my posts and post food I am eating or review places that I go to eat at. This will keep my followers interested and will help social media interactions and hopefully gain more views.

UCAS Personal Statement

I have always been interested in music, since I was a child I’ve loved making compilations and dancing in the car. As I don’t play an instrument, my window into the music world is through music business. I will be applying to the music business course to broaden my knowledge of the music world.

This subject interests me because it’s forever evolving and growing, there are many doorways that music business can open from music events to creating a record label to managing an artist. It’s the practical side of this course that really excites me, I loved putting on my own event whilst doing the events management course. I have been learning many skills on my course that I can't wait to grow.

I am hardworking, creative and determined which I believe are all positive traits to help me on this course. These skills have been shown through my past studies in ‘Event and artist promotion’. Due to COVID-19 we had to change and adapt our ideas more than once with restrictions changing what we could and couldn’t do. The way I was able to overcome this displays my skills and how much I have progressed. Throughout this course I have planned events and put one on in Brighton and have managed a collaborative website and Instagram page.

I love to attend other people's events and festivals as working within a festival is a goal of mine because I want all the practical experience I can get.

I am proud of putting on my own event, it showed me a lot of things to learn from and also showed me that there is a lot to think about, it was a great experience. Throughout my time working in catering (at fEAsT and at Coast) , I have always thrown myself into gaining more knowledge of the job and learning new skills which has led to me being promoted to a supervisor quite recently. I love the extra responsibility and I enjoy being a team leader as I believe I can delegate well. It's really helped me with confidence and communication, 2 skills that I believe will benefit me greatly in this course and in my future.

I couldn't tell you exactly what I want to do after the business management course because I haven't had enough experience across all the things we will cover, I may excel in something I haven't tried before, that's something that really excites me about this course. However I love attending festivals and music events therefore I would like to work within those in some way. Interning is another thing that interests me but I wouldn't know where to look just yet.
