Weekly Diaries

14.09.20

This week we began our planning on the Culture Channel Website. We had our first meeting where we discussed what everyone wanted to do to be involved, the minutes from that meeting are here:

This week I need to think about who I can work with to share resources and save time. I cross over with Indy, Daisie and Jena so need to think about where I could collaborate with them. I also need to think about how I want the page to look.

21.09.20

This week we decided that Indy was going to be creating a logo and Daisie would begin creating a homepage. I started thinking more about what I wanted to do on my page. I want to do a collaborative music page with other students on my course doing something music themed. Within that I would like to do album of the week and make playlists which are linked on the page.

This week I began doing a test run of what I wanted my website to look like. I also spoke to Phil about how it was coming along. He liked the skeleton of my idea but said it needed more. I needed to make my page different to other music pages, what is special about mine? I need to do something like music within the college or review local musicians albums. I need to make mine attractive to people in the college. I'm going to do a music page within the website and work with Daisie who is doing a live lounge, wk with Indy who is doing events during the pandemic and Jena who is interviewing artists within the college. Instead of us each having our own page we need to collaborate so it works better as a website. I need to start looking at different magazines and how they make their pages unique, what would help with interaction on my personal page?

On Friday we learnt how to make GIFs and I created one for the music page:

05.10.20

This week began with me continuing my work on my music blog test run. I tried out two formats of what I wanted to do and I didn't enjoy either of them. They felt like a chore and I wasn't inspired so I didn't think anyone else would really enjoy reading it.

I had a discussion with Phil and decided to do something I would enjoy a little more and I love food and talking about food so I decided to do a food blog. Within this is going to be weekly recipes catered to pescatarian's, occasional videos showing the method and photos throughout the blog. I am also going to be doing playlists that are themed around the food (if I can) so I can pull music into it somehow. Or maybe do music I like to put on whilst I cook.

For my pilot I made Nachos (find this here).

The pilot/test run wasn't very successful, I wasn't very proud to show it off. It wasn't unique and you could find what I created anywhere online so after a group evaluation I decided to add something else to make it different.

On Friday I changed my idea for a third time! I have now changed to doing a food blog alongside some music. So for my blog I am going to be doing a live lounge sort of thing where I then conduct a chatty interview. When I am then alone I will cook their favourite meal so I can bring in the food blog idea. The live lounge will be in video format and I will do the editing on Adobe Premiere. I will be doing the interviews on Anchor which I will then post onto Spotify, for the recipe I will be doing this in a blog style. I was inspired by my friend who is currently doing a music course at Northrook MET and he gave me the idea as he has a recording space in his back garden. I will see what kind of questions are asked in the hot wings youtube videos as they are chatty eating interviews.

By next Friday I am going to have my first video made, first interview done and the first recipe blogged. I am going to be doing this with Henry Barnes who is a local musician currently studying at Northbrook. He is the person who helped me come up with this idea. This will help me see if this idea is going to be successful.

This week was successful as I finally had a concrete idea of what I was going to do for my website. It was my most productive week so far. For next week I need to do a test run with Henry to see how long it takes therefore I can create a hard plan on when I'm releasing posts and plan the week before to see what I need.

JOBLIST:

-Test run the live lounge with Henry

-Create a plan once I know how long a video takes

-Make Henry's choice of food

-Write the recipe and take good quality pictures

19.10.20

I completed my joblist from last week so this week was successful. This week I decided on a name: WIRED. This was the name of a night I was going to put on that couldn't happen because of corona but instead I will call it the 'WIRED live lounge'.

On Wednesday Henry and I filmed the pilot live lounge, it went successfully and I have both the files but just need to edit them together on Premiere which I can do in college. We filmed the video in Henry's studio in his back garden. We filmed the video on a Canon Camera and a tripod. We recorded the audio into Logic. I will edit these together so the audio matches the video and I will put a logo at the beginning so when people watch they know I created it.

Today whilst my video file was uploading to drive I created a title screen for what will flash in front of the video before it starts. This is also what will be at the top of my web page:

I brought a lava lamp and some fairy lights from home to make the lighting nice in there. Henry already had salt rock lamps and a lava lamp, we also turned on his jukebox for more lighting

Where we set up the camera and tripod

Henry already had some plants which we put in the background and hung from the ceiling to give the live lounge a nice vibe

The room usually has sound deadening foam on the walls which we covered with a tapestry to make it look nicer inside.

I created this on Canva and the wire logo is from https://thenounproject.com/

On Friday I edited the video and the separate audio on Premiere in college. I also added in my logo/title screen for the live lounge. I am going to upload it onto Youtube when this is no longer a pilot and embed it onto the website in this way.

I also created a little heading for my recipe section on my website on Canva, using images from The Noun Project:

When I get home I will need to make Henry's favourite food (caramel brownie sundae) and photograph it accordingly and then publish. Henry and I are also going to be doing the interview tonight.

I cooked the brownies and had to re do them 3 times as I failed until the third (on the third try I added almond extract instead of vanilla by mistake, still worked though). The sundae was delicious but we never got round to filming the interview, I don't know if I will include this in the final project. I will have to work on it a bit more and I think I would only do it with some artists. I will try it out another time but at the moment I believe what I have done is enough for a fortnightly post.

This week was very successful! I created a pilot post which I think looks effective. It didn't take too long to create, I believe a week would be all that I need if I was doing a live lounge. I don't have enough artists to do a live lounge each week so next week I will need to think of something I could do instead of live lounges.

JOBLIST:

-Come up with something to do on weeks I don't have a live lounge video

09.11.20

So we got put into a second lockdown which has thrown a spanner in the works with my plan, meaning I have to change what I'm doing AGAIN!!

I contacted the people who were involved in my project (Ella Wingfield and pinkpirate) and asked if they'd be willing to send me a video fo them performing within their house. They both said they were interested in helping me out and that they would get me something done as soon as possible. Pinkpirate's fave food is mac n cheese which  wrote up a recipe for on google docs.

I began to develop ideas for a new idea so I could have more posts. I am going to do playlists liked to recipes, mostly from where the music originates e.g. Reggae originates in Jamaica so I will make a Jamaican dish. All this research is linked HERE.

This week I completed what I wanted to, I found another thing to do other than live lounge posts as I don't have enough artists so I am doing playlists and food connected to the music. So far I have Reggae, Hip Hop, Jazz and Drum and Bass. For next week I need to think about promotion and perhaps contacting more artists to be involved.

JOBLIST:

-Create some promotional material

-Think about which social media's are effective

-Contact some more local artists to see if they're interested.

16.11.20

This week I made a release schedule, I will be releasing a new post every other Friday from 11.12.20. My posts take about a week to create (depending on what they are live lounge posts take longer as I have to edit videos) so I need to stay on top of creating those.

This week I didn't do what I wanted to but I did do some promotional planning which is linked HERE. It did help me out on what to do when I post on Instagram and how other pages similar to mine operate. So I'm ready to start promoting next week.

Next week I need to focus on beginning to promote my page. I will be doing this on instagram mostly. I also have an artist in mind that I would like to contact.

JOBLIST:

-Start the promotion of my page

-Contact the artists

23.11.20

This week I edited my page on the actual met connect website. I just made a COMING SOON page so people knew what to expect:

Screenshot 2020-12-03 at 14.09.57.png

I posted this page on the met connect instagram with a preview of my first post. The hashtags are me testing out if they work and bring people in. I did get some likes from food pages that weren't following my main instagram as I posted it on there to. This shows that relevant hashtags do indeed get people liking the posts that wouldn't usually. This is a trick that I will continue to use when I post on the Met Connect Instagram.

The top is my caption.

I used a trick that I saw when I was researching, posting hashtags to get people in that don't follow you.

I also contacted NUMSKULL this week who is a band local to Chichester. They were happy to be involved and really liked the idea of my blog, They decided on Tuna Pasta Bake and wanted to film this in person. I would rather do filming in person so I can control what the background looks like and lighting etc.

I also contacted George Fenton who is a drum and bass DJ and he was happy to be involved.

This week was successful. I got another 2 artist's involved which is positive as I'm making connections with people I didn't know before. I also began the promotion of my page, it didn't get any comments but we got some followers from it which was positive.

JOBLIST:

-Create another post before launch

-Continue promotion

-Continue promotional research on my page

30.11.20

This week I made 2 new recipes, I made a mac n cheese for pinkpirate's live lounge as that is her favourite food. I also made a sun-dried tomato and chickpea burger (which was amazing) for the Hip Hop page. I am still waiting on pinkpirate's video but she sent me a message saying she will get it done as soon as she can, for my next post I will be doing the Hip Hop page instead of an artist as I have it ready.

I continued my research on promotion and similar pages but did not promote my page anymore, however our Instagram is becoming more active as we are posting more often as a group. We are also updating our stories which is very important to get to the top of people's pages.

JOBLIST:

-Next week is the week of the launch so I need to have my page ready on METCONNECT.INFO for my launch date (11.12.20)

-Write up the recipe for the Burger (mac n cheese is done)

7.12.20

This week I wrote up my burger recipe on my pilot page so it is easy to transfer to my Met Connect page. I also finalised my page on the Met Connect website ready for the launch.

I promoted my page on our Instagram:

Simple image but says everything it needs to

Screenshot 2020-12-12 at 15.12.30.png

How I captioned the launch announcement, Capitalising the important info draws attention to it.

Having a short caption is also key so people don't have to read loads.

The hashtags help traction and if they're linked to the post may make people follow or like.

I need to continue writing up my pages each week and filming live lounges, this page could be successful with the right promotion and the right collaborations.
