QUITE LIKE YOU

Andy Shauf

I came across this song during lockdown and fell in love. I had it on repeat the first day I heard it, and I still have not got bored of it so that is why I've included it in this weeks 3 songs. This album follows the story of a party (hence the name 'the Party) and 'Quite Like You' appears 4th on the album. Andy writes this song as a character that approaches his best friend's girlfriend and as he's drunk he ends up saying things he wouldn't say sober. It follows the story of Jeremy and Sherry; Jeremy is Sherry's boyfriend and he doesn't treat her very well. Andy in this song oversteps his boundaries and trows Jeremy under the bus ultimately freaking Sherry out and driving her back into the arms of Jeremy.

The first verse is slightly more hopeful and she seems to appreciate what Andy is saying to her as she says "you know I've never really met someone like you". In the second verse he starts "tearing' Jeremy apart and she ends up getting uneasy which brings the songs happy beginning to a slightly sadder tone. The song ends very abruptly after she goes back to Jeremy which ultimately makes the song melancholy. She unfairly gives him the idea that something could happen which leads to him freaking her out by being too forward and they end up acting like they never said a thing.

I love this song and it's story. In my favourites of the year for sure.
