Overall evaluation

BANDS:

Before the event there should've been a band practice as well as a soundcheck as things at the event started to go wrong. The volume of the bands were too loud and they ended up having to do an acoustic set and then moved to a live room as there were noise complaints. The second band, "the crave", behaved in a very professional manor when they were asked to quieten down unlike the first band who kept on turning up their instruments and saying inappropriate things down the mic.

The volume of the bands meant it was hard to talk to visitors and do the tours. The bands made the entrance a very hectic and busy area where it was busy already so it caused a little more stress than it should've. Next time we suggested a DJ because the music wasn't the correct vibe and with a DJ, you can mix genres and play anything wanted. There also should've been a rehearsal so we could've heard what

TOURS:

The tours were very successful. Everyone who ran out of things to do helped out and spoke to parents. The tours were conducted by students which gives the tour a personal and honest view of the college. There wasn't anything to change about the tours.

PHOTOBOOTH:

The photobooth was a good idea but when carried out wasn't very successful. Nobody took any interest in it because most visitors came along with their parents so were too embarrassed to take part and get their photos done. If the photobooth was in a different location then it could've been more successful. It was originally supposed to be in the theatre bar where I believe it would be more successful. I think this because in the theatre bar alcohol is served which can make people more relaxed and open to taking part. Especially as the idea of the photobooth was modelled off the ones used at club nights do.

As the night went on the people working on it became more and more disheartened as no one was showing interest so encouraging people got harder and harder.

GRAFFITI WALL:

Overall the graffiti wall was very positive. It was very inviting, people just went up to it and didn't need any guidance. This made it very easy for visitors to go to and everyone seemed to enjoy it. It got really filled up and lots of people were putting their instagram handles on it which could help students communicate. It was a very good chance for networking. The only thing that we said we would change was the fact that it was on a table and not pinned up on the wall.

MAP:

The map looked really good in the end and It took a lot of time to set up. The visitors showed a lot if interest in it which was positive. It was good for the visitors because it had quotes from people about college and where people were travelling from to get to college so it had a lot of information. Next time we would've made it bigger and actually find a place to put it on the wall so it's easier to look at and easier for visitors to find.

FILM:

the film was a tour of the music and theatre department and the day to day life at Northbrook. The video didn't get shown on the night as the technicians didn't get it on the TV so it was unsuccessful in that sense.

OVERALL:

everyone was pretty tired and fed up by the end of the night because of the fact that we had been in all day so everyone started getting bored and shutting off. A lot of us ended up going early as the photobooth was unsuccessful which wasn't great.

All the stuff that was put on was crowded around the entrance so it was very hectic and noisy. Next time I would suggest moving various things to different locations like the photobooth to the theatre bar and the band in a live room.

As a group we could've communicated better before the event and during because it was very hectic.

A good plan would've been handing out maps with all the separate things going on on it. That would've made it easier to find and people could visit things they wanted to instead of feeling pressure to do things.

As a group we communicated well on the night but in advance it wasn't the greatest and if done again could be improved. We all relied on each other well and helped each other out where we could.

HEALTH & SAFETY:

We didn't carry out any health and safety checks before the event which could've been bad but luckily nothing went wrong. Next time we should carry out a risk assessment in advance. In the risk assessment we could've seen that wires are a trip hazard, noise levels were too high and was there sufficient access to fire exits.
