Event Research

Event 1: Feet

This event is a live band called FEET. They will be performing at Patterns, a small bar in Brighton that often puts on music events. The audience of this event is for 14s and over, and for people who follow the band or like the genre of music. The event is on the 26th of October. This is important because it is on a Saturday night which is a night a lot of people spend the night out so this event is likely to be popular. The event is being promoted by the band because it is part of their tour so it is on their social media’s and their website. The bar patterns is also promoting this event on their website.

Staff needed at this event might be security, bouncers, bar staff, audio engineers. The likely financial aspects might be… Is it successful? As it is not happened yet I don’t know if it will be but FEET have posted about the legs of their tour almost being sold out so should be successful. The event was very successful with the small venue very busy. The only thing I could think of being improved was how short the set was. They only did the songs that were on their new album but I think that was to be expected.

Event 2: Glastonbury 2019

This event is the largest greenfield music and performing arts festival in the world. It is located in Somerset in the UK on a large area of land. It is outdoor but lots of stages and large tents are set up. You have to be with someone over the age of 18 to go so is geared more towards adults. There is something for every person at Glastonbury with many genres of music available to see so many people are desperate to go each year.

The festival took place from the 26th of June 2019 – 1st of July 2019. This is important because it took place in the summer holidays so many people had time off. It also takes place in the peak of summer with hopes the weather stays good which it did for the 2019 festival. Glastonbury often is associated with wellies because it becomes the muddiest field to be walking around. The event doesn’t need much promotion as it is very well known but I’ve seen adverts all over Instagram. I’ve also seen press on this event because of the big names they always have in their line up. Glastonbury is always so spoken about between brits as it is very popular and tickets have a very high demand.

There would have needed to be a lot of staff roles to make Glastonbury successful. These are the job roles I found listed on their website:

  • Finance, licensing, customer services and general administration

  • Infrastructure, procurement and coordination of temporary infrastructure

  • Site, sanitation, environmental and ground works

  • Many people volunteer with Oxfam for their ticket and take time working three 8 hour shifts and then getting time off for the festival. Jobs include roles on the gates, campaigning with the public and working the Oxfam shop.

  • Litter picking

  • Paramedics

  • Tent stewards, campsite wardens

  • Security

  • Bar staff

  • Audio engineers and music technicians

The likely financial aspects are:

It was a very successful festival with many amazing reviews and an even higher demand for tickets this year with them selling out in 34 minutes! No performers called off their performances and reviews were brilliant: Emily eavis wrote “I know it has been said before but that really was the best festival yet!”. Glastonbury festival banned the use of single-use plastic for the 2019 festival which was good for the environment saving 1 million plastic bottles from being used. Water was sold in cans and there were water aid worker scattered throughout the festival making sure everyone got the water they needed. The only thing I think could be improved is the fact that tickets sell out so quick. However there are 135,000 tickets available every year.
