Venues

The Volks:

  • Club/Bar in Brighton

  • 18+

  • 300 capacity

  • 2 floors available (basement 60 people)

  • Lighting & sound equipment available to use on both floors

  • Daytime or early evening events

  • Available to hire on Wednesdays, Thursdays or Sundays

Not very useful to me at this time as it's 18+. Capacity would mean has to be popular, will be more useful when I am 18 and can get more people there. They do a lot of drum and bass events so Volks is a good club to keep in mind.

  • Fully stocked bar

  • 300 capacity

  • Daytime and evening events

  • Any sort of event, not just music

  • £150 to hire

  • Only hire to established promoters

Another 18+ venue, not very useful to me at this time as I am not yet an established promoter.

Komedia:

  • Performance spaces (stages)

  • Main space - known for comedy (krater comedy club) as well as gigs and clubs

  • Audiences work from 80-400 people

  • Standing and seating formats

  • The studio (small gig space)

  • Any event

This is useful to me depending on the type of event I am wanting to put on, the fact that there is no age restriction is good for me at this time.

Patterns:

  • 250 capacity

  • Large bar and seating area

  • Dance floor

  • PA system set up

  • DJ & band equipment set up

  • Photobooth

  • Fully stocked bar

Will be an 18+ event if it is a club night, so won't be useful to me at this time however it is good for live music and club nights so is a god one to keep in mind for the future.

Promoters

Lout Promotions

Lout Promotions is founded by Lisa Lout. She began DJing in indie clubs which then led to her promoting indie club nights and live shows. Now they promote all genres of music but veer towards indie. They make sure to book shows that they believe in and it is based within Brighton. They use many venues like Concorde 2, Patterns, Komedia and The Old Market.

The Lout Promotions website is very simple and effective. It is literally just all the gigs that they have going on and links to tickets when you click on the image. I really like the way this website is laid out, I would use this website as inspiration for my own 'Stacey's Room' website for part of our next project. The thing that I would change would be to have a little bit more information on the website like contact details.

Melting Vinyl

Melting Vinyl is an independent promoting company in Brighton which was founded by Anna Moulson in 1997. They focus on promoting high quality artists from various genres from upcoming or touring bands. They have also created 'Lewes Psychedelic Festival. They use a variation of venues going as far as cinemas and churches to the Brighton Dome.

The Melting Vinyl website has quite a bit of information on it. It has an about page where you learn how they were founded and can contact them, it also has a what's on page which tells you what they are putting on in and around Brighton. I don't really like the way it looks compared to Lout's website as it is quite busy but it does hold what you need to know. I would use this as inspiration because of the amount of information on it, but would make the website easier to navigate.

TICKET PAGE

One Inch Badge

One Inch Badge are concert promoters, a record label and a venue management company that is based in Brighton. It began in 2007 and they have since promoted artists like Haim, Bastille andThe War On Drugs. They put on concerts instead of club nights.

Their website is very simple which I like. Although it is simple it also holds a lot of information on it. It has an about page and separate sub headings for the different sections within their business. Their home page is just what they have coming up and the shows page has all their artists and upcoming events on it, again it is set up very simply but it looks good and is very easy to navigate. This is a website I would get a lot of inspiration from as it is simple but also has everything you need to know.
